Mission Moment: Fourth of July

Celebrating the 4th of July draws community together.  This year, The Education Foundation of BCPS, Inc. joined the Towson 4th of July Parade.  We saw many familiar faces and made new friends while spreading the word about this year’s schools supply drive, Tools for School!

Team members from the Office of Transportation made this all possible.  They provided a yellow school bus that we decorated with banners and flags to be part of the parade.  Thanks to the efforts of David McCrae, Director of Transportation, Kenny West, Asst. Director of Transportation, Janet Teter, Senior Operations Supervisor, Trema Hoffman, Dispatcher and Tony Maxwell, Driver, who helped coordinate the endeavor.  Together we helped the school bus deliver the message that BCPS is collecting school supplies for students to help them prepare for the start of the new school year.

We were also joined by the foundation’s newly appointed President of the Board, Tim Bojanowski who walked with Deborah Phelps, the foundation’s executive director, along the parade route, shaking hands and encouraging participation in the drive.

The community welcomed us with cheers and support as the bus made its way through Towson.  Thank you all who support the campaign.   The enthusiasm we received made a promising statement; our community cares.

Tools for School! is part of the BCPS Back to School Involves You Too! campaign.  Everyone from retires to elected officials and business partners have a stake in ensuring a successful start to the new school year for our students and teachers.  From July 2 to August 24, Education Champions will be collecting supplies, making monetary donations and volunteering their time and talent.  If you would like to support this initiative information can be found on The Education Foundation Web site.

You can also bring supplies while you visit Farmers Markets at the Towson Farmer’s Market on Thursday’s, or Pikesville Farmer’s Market on Tuesday’s where you can help Stuff a Bus.  Dates and times can also be found on the foundation Web site.

On a final note: SAVE THE DATE!  We hope to see you on August 25th for the BCPS Back to School Involves You Too! BCPSfest at White Marsh Mall.  Join TEAM BCPS for Baltimore County’s free back to school festival being held at Boscov’s White Marsh, lower parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Or you can join TEAM BCOS on August 29th for BCPS Night at the Yard for Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays.  Tickets must be purchased online at www.orioles.com/tix/balcountypublicschools.

Have a great summer!
