The Education Foundation Builds Greater Awareness at the Annual New Teacher Orientation Program

(Towson, MD—August 28, 2013) The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools participated in this year’s New Teacher Orientation Program, held at Perry Hall High School August 13 and 15. The Foundation hosted an information booth during the two-day orientation, along with other vendors, to provide knowledge and information.

Teachers visited the booths each day from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During lunch, Deborah Phelps, Director of the Foundation, shared information with the teachers and BCPS Offices pertaining to the types of support provided by the organization in three key areas:

• Support to systemic initiatives, such as digital instructional conversion and bilingual education
• Scholarships
• School-based projects and instructional initiative grants

Assistance in staffing the Foundation’s booth was provided by Mrs. Sharon Loving; volunteer and parent of two BCPS students; Ms. Janice Saul, volunteer and retired BCPS employee; and Victoria Lizardo, recent graduate of Chesapeake High School and a freshman at Bowie State University, where she plans to major in marketing.  Lizardo was also an intern at the Foundation this summer.

Community sponsors included: Ann Taylor Loft, Charm City Cupcakes, Greetings and Readings, Jiffy Lube, Mr. F. Fulco, Learning How-School Supply Store, Ojas Wellness Center, Renaissance Hair Salon and Spa, SECU, Subway in Glyndon, Text2Give, Talbots (Towson and the Village of Cross Keys) and Vaccaro’s.

“The orientation program was a great opportunity for us to meet the new teachers and make them more aware of the Foundation’s mission,” says Phelps.  “I am so grateful for the assistance that we receive from our volunteers and community sponsors, who provide their time, talent, and financial support.”

Several teachers received gift certificates and merchandise, which were generously provided by community sponsors.

The Education Foundation is a private, non-profit charitable organization under IRS section 501(c)(3). We accept contributions that are designated by donors for specific purposes, such as scholarships and school-based projects, as well as unrestricted funds that are granted by the Education Foundation in response to fulfill school system goals.
