Open Door donates $10,000 in school supplies to Education Foundation

Open Door did it again! The before- and after-school care provider has contributed $10,000 in school supplies – as it did last year – to the Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools.

The contribution was given to support the school system’s Back to School Involves You, Too! campaign to secure school supplies for needy families. Every year, some families struggle to provide their children with needed school supplies, and often, teachers use their own funds to fill in the gaps. The campaign was created to engage the community in ensuring that all children receive the supplies they need to get the school year off to a good start.

Open Door provides before- and after-school services in 18 Baltimore County elementary schools as well as in Anne Arundel, Carroll, and Harford counties.

“Open Door’s mission continues to be to support working families with children in Baltimore County Public Schools,” said Jeanne Marie Murphy, Open Door’s founder and executive director. “We are pleased to participate in the Back to School Initiative and appreciate our partnership with BCPS.”

Deborah Phelps, director of the Education Foundation, praised Open Door for its leadership. “The school system’s annual school supply campaign is just in its second year,” Phelps noted. “Open Door’s generous gift establishes a strong foundation for us to build on and brings attention to the growing opportunities for corporate and community support of our students and schools.”

In addition to collecting school supplies, the school system’s Back to School Involves You, Too! campaign features back to school festivals, special contests, BCPS-TV programming, Parent University workshops, and more.
