Announcing the Lead for Tomorrow in Education Scholarship
A Scholarship Opportunity for the Class of 2022 and Beyond
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – President John Quincy Adams, former U.S. President
Leadership comes in all shapes and sizes. There are active leaders, silent leaders, those who lead by example, leaders who explore, leaders who take chances, leaders who empower others, leaders who demonstrate gratitude. There are leaders who invoke change, leaders who create opportunity, and leaders who protect the rights of others. The list goes on and on. Along with finding all these types of leaders in Baltimore County Public Schools you will also find those who lead, invest in our future by inspiring young individuals to follow in their path by planting the seed of encouragement to become a leader too, a leader in the field of education.
As a culminating activity as “Celebrating BCPS Principal Excellence,” week ends, Baltimore County Public Schools Principals in partnership with The Education Foundation of BCPS announce the Lead for Tomorrow in Education Scholarship to support BCPS globally competitive students who select professional careers in K-12 education. Aligned with The Compass: Our Pathway to Excellence. Key Initiative 4: Grow Our Own teacher program and initiatives, this scholarship will help address teacher shortages, retention issues, and teacher diversity.
Through the inspiring focus of Ms. Kyria Joseph, Principal of Milford Mill Academy, the idea for the scholarship took root and grew as collaborative efforts with the foundation brought the scholarship to life. “Our students are at the center of everything as educators,” she stated. “This scholarship is an investment in our children to encourage them to become educators and bring their talents back to BCPS. This is the legacy work that will unite our school communities.”
The purpose of the Lead for Tomorrow in Education Scholarship is to encourage motivated, well-qualified BCPS graduates to enter a career in K-12 education. It will support BCPS efforts to increase a highly effective, diverse workforce that is representative of our demographics. In addition, the scholarship award will provide a platform to recruit and retain qualified candidates who in the future, will promote employee growth and development of those already living in Baltimore County, ensuring the potential to continue to provide quality educators in our schools.
Up to six (6) $1,000.00 one-time scholarships will be awarded to students who attend BCPS comprehensive high schools in each of the three zones (East, Central and West) within Baltimore County.
