What is the new endeavor? Here’s a HINT:

Those of you who joined us on August 25, 2018, for the Tools for School campaign at Boscov’s, White Marsh Mall, were able to experience the impact of community participation focused towards supporting BCPS students in need. Over 932 teachers registered to receive much needed school supplies for the opening of the school year. Registration spots were limited. What many may not know is that over 4,600 teachers were interested in registering. This number represents approximately 50% of our teachers who have expressed the need for school supplies to supplement the tools needed in the classroom to create a successful learning environment. The majority of these teachers reach into their own pockets to provide resources for students, not just as the school year kicks off, but year round.

So what is The Education Foundation of BCPS, Inc. to do when we witness the growth of needs to help provide the fundamental tools to develop life-long-learners at BCPS? This interest is well matched by a community who is continuously searching for ways to give and support education. If any of you have recently dropped by the Foundation Headquarters, you will see boxes filled with schools supplies, lining the walls and filling our conference room. As a matter of fact, an additional 6 pallets of school supplies is in storage waiting for distribution. The foundation continues to receive contributions from the community, even after the August 25th Tools for School event. It is an ongoing reflection of support for our teachers and students.

This information was reported to the Foundation’s Board of Directors at its first annual meeting in September of 2018. This news resulted in a generous offering from one of the board members to support a new project which will help move this initiative forward.

Opportunities to support this project range from monetary contributions, hosting collection locations for school supplies and volunteering. The Education Foundation of BCPS, Inc. is the bridge that connects the community to our school district. As the bridge, the Foundation can now deliver a direct path that will expedite the connection between a caring community and students who are eager to achieve.

Stay tuned and join us Friday on Facebook Live for this BIG announcement!!! You won’t want to miss it.

Next week, see Part 2 of this project in our Mission Moment.
