What happens when you gather individuals and organizations together to support children? We at The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools experienced this first-hand by engaging with the amazing outpouring of community partnerships towards the event, Back to School Involves You Too!
Back to School Involves You Too! is a campaign, built through a collaboration of individuals from businesses, organizations, and community members, orchestrated through TEAM BCPS and sponsored by The Education Foundation of BCPS, to launch Baltimore County Public Schools teachers and students towards a successful new 2018-2019 school year.
The campaign is comprised of three initiatives; the BCPS Fest, Tools for School! and BCPS Day at the Yard.
Tools for School! is a school supply drive which began July 2nd and extended through August 25th. This year it was supported by over 300 Education Champions including retirees, elected officials, neighborhood friends, organizations, churches and businesses who volunteer their time, talent and treasure to bring much needed schools supplies to the classroom. Over 850 BCPS teachers registered for this event which took place on August 25th at Boscov’s White Marsh Mall. Over 50 pallets of schools supplies were received, sorted, stocked, inventoried and distributed by over 155 volunteers from the community fulfilling 942 volunteer service hours. Teacher’s collected the supplies to provide to students in need, enabling them to be prepared for their first day of school.
The BCPS Fest is a free outdoor festival to celebrate the return to school. The festival took place at the Boscov’s White Marsh Mall lot, filled with nearly 40 different exhibits. It allowed families to experience the fun and excitement associated with an antique fire engine, a story time booth, the BCPS Parentmobile, jump rope games, the benefits of dental care, the BCPL Bookmobile, musical performances, BCPS student support programs, interactive fun activities and games.
BCPS Day at the Yard was held at Camden Yards on August 29th and was attended by students, parents, teachers and the BCPS community to cheer on the Baltimore Orioles as they played the Toronto Blue Jays. A fun filled evening was had by all.
The Education Foundation of BCPS wishes to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in Back to School Involves You Too. We are grateful for our community who bring joy to our BCPS students by providing much needed school supplies to begin the school year, information to achieve success, and fun-filled activities. When students know their community cares, they may one day become a citizen who contributes as well.
