Mission Moment: A Caring Community Gives

It was a site to behold on Saturday, August 26, 2017, when over 750 teachers from Baltimore County Public Schools stood in line to receive FREE overstuffed bags and stacks of donated items from community partners at a pop-up shop near Boscov’s at the White Marsh Mall.   They received paper, pens, pencils, crayons, rulers, scissors, binders, markers and many other supplies to help ensure BCPS students could begin the year with classroom readiness.  The day reflected the overwhelming generosity seen across the county supporting our teachers and students for the 2017-2018 school year.

More than 65 businesses and organization from over 100 locations across the area participated in this year’s Back to School Involves You Too! Campaign, resulting in a 67% increase over last year’s participation.  In addition, volunteers from the school community contributed to the success of the event in many different capacities.  Featured outside the mall at the Back to School Festival, was the BCPS Parentmobile (a parent resource center on a retrofitted school bus), the Baltimore County Public Library’s bookmobile, activities for children, information tables about community resources, food, fun, and prize drawings, the BCPS Mobile Innovative Lab, fire trucks, food trucks and vendor tables.  The voice of support for our teachers and students was truly reflected in the activity of the day.
