STEAM Nights challenge Cromwell Valley families
Families enjoyed the STEAM Challenge at the first Cromwell Valley Elementary STEAM Night held in October. The next STEAM Night is scheduled for Jan. 31 from 4-6 p.m.
Families can expect a focus on literacy and a fun STEAM Challenge, which will involve building musical instruments from recycled materials.
STEAM Nights provide opportunities for families to enjoy reading together. They also introduce families to Cromwell Valley’s new STEAM Magnet focus.
STEAM Nights, along with an in-school assembly, are made possible because Cromwell Valley is the 21st Century Enrichment Grant recipient. This grant is funded by The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools in partnership with Hot Spots Extended Care Programs.
As a grant recipient, Cromwell Valley received $3,000 to assist proposed community events that diversify resources and promote teacher, student, family and community participation. The funds increased resources available to the school and fostered collaborative planning with community organizations.
At the school’s first STEAM Night in October, the STEAM Challenge was to build a tower using spaghetti, marshmallows, and string. Families used the engineering design process to complete the engineering challenge. A total of 20 families kicked off the STEAM Night initiative.
