School supply drive grows!

Area businesses join Office Depot in collecting supplies for BCPS students

TOWSON, MD. – Area businesses are helping Baltimore County students get prepared for the upcoming school year one pencil and one marble notebook at a time.

Just last week, Baltimore County Public Schools announced that Office Depot is encouraging its customers to buy needed school supplies for BCPS students and donate them in five area stores.

Area businesses have quickly joined in by organizing school supply drives among their own employees and visitors. The growing list includes the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce, Celebree Learning Centers, First Federal Financial Credit Union, Franklin Square Hospital, HMS Insurance, Phillips Way, and UPS. To encourage its employees to give, UPS is hosting a friendly competition among its Belair, Owings Mills, Towson, and Dundalk centers. The center that collects the most school supplies will receive a surprise from UPS management.

The school supply drive, which will accept donations until Aug.14, is part of a larger Back to School Involves You, Too! campaign, supported by the Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools. The campaign is designed to involve the entire community in supporting the success of students and schools.

The Office Depot stores collecting donations are located at:

  • 1920 York Road, Timonium 21093
  • Cherryvale Plaza Shopping Center,11716 Reisterstown Road,  Reisterstown 21136
  • Perring Plaza Shopping Center, 1953 E. Joppa Road, Parkville 21234
  • 3595 Washington Boulevard, Lansdowne 21227
  • West Plaza,  6501 Baltimore National Pike, Catonsville 21228

The most needed school supplies are folders, composition books/notebooks, pencils, crayons, highlighters/markers, glue sticks, scissors, backpacks, binders, pens, and Post-It notes.

In addition to collecting supplies from its customers, Office Depot is donating 500 supply-filled backpacks to the drive through its company foundation.
