Grants for Elementary Schools
The Education Foundation is honored to have partnered with Open Door Before and After School Care to launch the Excellence in Education Grants to BCPS elementary schools, in order to fund innovative projects not supported by the school budget. Projects application are no longer being accepted at this time. If you are interested in applying for a 21st Century Grant from the foundation, please consider applying for an Instructional Initiative Grant.
Last year's grant impacts can be viewed here which provides a brief overview of the outcomes from the 2018-2019 school year programs that were implemented.
With each project addressing at least one of the following instruction focused 21st Century Themes as stated, elementary schools will identify an academic opportunity within their school house. The goal of the initiative was to diversify elementary education focus to excellence in education opportunities and increase student/parent/teacher/community collaborative efforts.
The 2018-2019 projects addressed at least one of the following instructional focused 21st century themes:
- Arts and Culture
- Civic Literacy
- Environmental Literacy
- Business, Economic, Entrepreneurial and Financial Literacy
- Global Awareness
- Health Literacy
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM


The Excellence in Education Grants
For more than 30 years, Open Door has been working hand-in-hand with Maryland public schools to provide nurturing, stimulating and affordable before and after school care. With 30 sites in Maryland and 17 in Baltimore County, Open Door has a long track record of successfully collaborating and partnering with schools.
The launch of the grant initiative, in partnership with The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools, Inc. provided an opportunity to award 10 elementary schools grants of up to $3,000 each to enrich the learning beyond the classroom.
Open Door Before and After Care's vision is to support the core mission of the Superintendent's being that of high-quality instruction that prepares students for college and careers through a positive climate in every school and an emphasis on literacy across the subject areas. It is also to provide schools with resources that will allow students and families the opportunity to participate in collaborative projects based on 21st century instructional themes.

March 18, 2019: Submission of Recipient Grant Survey
