Mission Moment: School’s out, but the beat goes on!

Students from around the county make music during BCPS Summer Music Camp.

Students, grades 5 through 12 performed on Wednesday, June 27th at the Avenue at White Marsh with a variety of songs ranging from the Beatles to Andrew Lloyd Webber.  They delighting the hearts and souls of family and friends in the beautiful outdoor venue.  Audience members sat beneath shady trees, on blankets or kicked back in colorful Adirondack chairs tapping fingers, feet and toes.

This is the 31st Annual Summer Music Camp where Baltimore County Public School students receive instruction in instrumental and vocal performance.  Band, chorus, guitar and orchestra are all offered to students enrolled.  This program is made possible to every student enrolled in music programs during the school year.  It offers county wide enrichment opportunities to provide students with additional experiences in order to develop higher levels of performance skills.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Jerry’s Toyota and The Avenue at White Marsh for their generous gift of $2,500 which helped sustain this program for the 2016-2017 school year.  An additional measure of gratitude goes out to the many instructors, volunteers, interns & conductors who shared their time and talent with the students, as well as the Office of Music’s Amy M. Cohn, Coordinator of Music & Dance; Dr. Brian K. Schneckenburger, Music Supervisor; Shane D. Jensen, Music Specialist; Ellen L. Nash-West, Piano Technician and Lisa M. Thomas, Administrative Secretary.

For the student’s final performance, a concert was presented at Oregon Ridge Park, the summer home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  Additional photos of the summertime event at Oregon Ridge will be posted on our website.  Come back and visit.
